Tips to use Spyware Detector on Windows Vista


Opening Spyware Detector

When you open spyware Detector on Windows Vista, it prompts for certain message boxes. The message varies according to the rights the user is having.

Administrator: If the logged in user is Administrator or is having administrative rights, when try to open Spyware Detector, Windows Vista will prompt for a message box asking your consent to open it.

It is recommended that you click on Continue button to run Spyware Detector. Every time you open Spyware Detector, this prompt message will appear.

Standard User: If the logged in user is Standard user, when you try to open Spyware Detector, Windows Vista will prompt for a message box asking the password of an administrator user to open it.

It is recommended that you give the password of appropriate administrator user and click on OK button to run Spyware Detector. Every time you open Spyware Detector, this prompt message will appear.

Startup Entries

Windows Vista blocks any startup entry which is trying to run after you Log in. Spyware Detector creates some entries in startup which need to run for proper functioning of some of its features like AutoLiveupdate, AutoScan and System tray.

Windows Vista prevents programs that require permission or an administrator password from running automatically when Windows starts. If a program is blocked, you'll see a message in the notification area that says some startup programs need permission to run. You can run a blocked program, remove blocked programs from startup, or ignore the notification.

To Run a Blocked Program: Right-click the Blocked startup programs icon in the notification area.

Click Run blocked program, and then click the name of the program you want to run. In case of Spyware Detector, it will be one or all of the three names:

  1. Spyware Detector
  2. Spyware Detector Tray file
  3. Spyware Detector Liveupdate

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Click on Continue or Submit as required.

Note: You'll need to repeat these steps each time you want to run the program after starting Windows.


Uninstalling Spyware Detector

Windows Vista does not allow uninstalling a program directly from Start Menu--->Program. If you try to uninstall Spyware Detector from Start menu--->All Programs--->SpywareDetector--->Uninstall SpywareDetector, it will give an error message:

So, for uninstalling Spyware Detector, you need to go to Start--->Control Panel--->Programs--->Programs and Features--->Select Spyware Detector and click on Uninstall.

It will prompt for your consent again. Click on Continue.It will confirm if you want to remove Spyware Detector, click Yes and it will uninstall Spyware Detector from your PC.If you select No, it will uninstall Spyware Detector.


Do not show Tips on Startup

If you don’t want to run 'Tips to use Spyware Detector on Windows Vista' at startup, then follow the below mentioned steps to disable it:

  1. Open the Spyware Detector.
  2. Go to the Options tab present on the Main Interface.
  3. Go to the Startup Entries Tab.
  4. Find the SD_Tips entry, check this entry and click on Delete.
  5. After this close the application. Tips page will not run at the start up now.
